ANGELA DAVIS OBELISK

This utopian project was conceptualized for the IV Caribbean Biennial (2001). It has waited exactly twelve years in order to become a reality. The Dominican artist, Darío Suro, along with  millions of others in the planet, revered the iconic Afro of Angela Davis and immortalized her legacy in an epiphany in the form of a drawing.

My determination to incarnate his vision in the form of an urban intervention on the Obelisk of Santo Domingo, a monument that has impregnated with exceptional stamina Dominican liberation struggles for the last 50 years, is an homage to him, to HER and to infinite Others.
